Emergency Management and Evacuation Plan

Purpose. This plan tells everyone at the hub what to do in a fire, medical emergency, gas leak, threatening person or severe weather, and who is in charge.

1.Wardens

The chief warden is the Centre Manager, and the Garden and Facilities Coordinator is the deputy. Each area has a warden whose name and photo are on the board by the door. Wardens wear the orange cap during an emergency and everyone must follow their instructions.

2.Fire

If you see fire or smoke, raise the alarm by shouting fire and pressing the red alarm button, and call triple zero. Only use an extinguisher if the fire is small and you have been trained. Leave by the nearest exit shown on the map in each room and go to the assembly point on the front lawn. Do not use the lift and do not go back for belongings.

• Wait for the warden to mark the roll and say it is safe

3.Medical emergency

Call the first aid officer for the area and call triple zero if the person is unconscious, not breathing, bleeding heavily or having chest pain. Stay with the person. The defibrillator is at the front desk. Fill in the Incident and Hazard Report Form afterwards.

4.Threatening person

Do not confront a person who is threatening or violent. Move away, press the duress button at the front desk or call triple zero, and follow the warden's instruction to lock down in the nearest room or evacuate. Record the incident afterwards.

5.Gas leak, power failure and severe weather

If you smell gas, do not use switches, leave the area and tell the warden, who will turn off the gas at the meter and call the gas company. In a power failure, stop using kitchen equipment and check fridge temperatures every hour. In severe weather, stay inside away from windows and follow warnings from the emergency services.

6.Practice and review

The hub will run an evacuation drill each term and record it. The plan is reviewed every year and after any real emergency, and the exit signs, alarms, extinguishers and first aid kits are checked monthly by the Garden and Facilities Coordinator and recorded on the Task Board.
